How to Check Your Oil (Step-by-Step Guide)
1. Let the Car Cool Down
Wait at least 1 hour after driving. This allows all the oil
to drain back into the sump for an accurate reading.
2. Locate the Dipstick
Your vehicle’s owner’s manual will show exactly where the
dipstick is located.
3. First Dipstick Pull
Remove the dipstick—but ignore the oil level at this stage,
as it’s not the true reading.
4. Clean the Dipstick
Wipe it thoroughly with a lint-free cloth.
5. Reinsert and Check Again
Push the dipstick fully back in, then pull it out once more.
Look for the Minimum and Maximum markings.
Oil below Minimum: Add oil immediately.
Oil between Min and Max: Normal.
Oil above Maximum: This can cause serious engine
